Christian Advocate For Survivors
A word from the founder of Beacon Of Hope
Welcome!
My name is Joy Singer. I am a survivor of Clergy sexual abuse. I know firsthand
how traumatic
it can be
for survivors
of clergy
sexual abuse.
I am a Latino woman and former migrant farm worker who is proud
to have been influenced at a very tender age by Cesar Chavez
in his effort to bring social justice for migrant farm workers.
I learned from Cesar Chavez how important it is to do social
justice by speaking out against things that are unjust and
oppressive. The years I worked harvesting crops, were, to some
degree, my preparation for harvesting the Lord’s fields.
This ministry
is here for
you to offer
compassionate
listening
and empowerment
for survivors
of clergy
sexual abuse.
It is our
desire to
minister to
you so that
healing can
take place.
We also want
to equip you
so that you
can reach
out to others.
One of my
favorite verses
is, "You will
know the truth
and the truth
will set you
free." (John
8:32) The
Lord is able
to heal any
traumatic
experience.
Due to clergy
sexual abuse
my life was
devastated.
It is very
difficult
to speak out
when from
day one the
cards appear
to be stacked
against the
victim. It
truly is a
David and
Goliath situation.
God allowed
me to experience
the many layers
of betrayal,
devastation
and oppression
that arise
out of clergy
sexual abuse.
There are
many obstacles
that can keep
a victim of
clergy sexual
abuse from
getting justice.
The good news
is that even
when there
is no justice,
God is able
to bring healing.
Nothing is
impossible
for God. He
is able to
bring healing
no matter
the outcome.
Remember,
God will have
the last word.
He is not
mocked. By
the grace
of God, my
faith in the
Lord has grown
tremendously
and through
this horrible
experience
I learned
that my God
is able to
deliver me
out of the
miry pit!
Dear survivor, maybe you find yourself in the miry pit at this moment. I
want to tell you that God is able to deliver you too. You are not alone.
We are here to listen with compassion and understanding to what you are
going through.
I want to emphasize that I love the church and I thank God for the church.
There are many honorable and trustworthy churches and clergy, but that
does not negate the wolves in sheep’s clothing nor the Christian leaders
who turn a blind eye.
Dear beloved, we have an advocate who loves us and who warned us
about these wolves in sheep’s clothing. Jesus Christ will shine his
light of Justice on what really happened. Justice will come someday.
Remember, the darkness hates the light. The prophets of the Bible
were persecuted for speaking out and exposing the evil of their
day so do not be surprised if you are being persecuted for speaking
out. Jesus himself was persecuted for speaking out against immoral
and crooked religious leaders. Read Matthew 23 where Jesus exposes
the hypocrisy of the religious leaders of his day.
Birth of Beacon of Hope
Due to clergy
sexual abuse,
I thought
that I was
done with
ministry.
My faith was
shaken but
my Lord and
Savior Jesus
Christ did
not allow
this experience
to wipe me
out. Instead,
He made me
stronger and
opened new
doors of ministry
where there
is great need.
God is now
using what
was intended
for evil for
His Glory.
Because my
story became
public, I
started getting
calls from
other survivors
who wanted
to share their
story and
needed compassion
and someone
to minister
to them. This
is how Beacon
of Hope was
birthed. As
the Lord empowers
me to minister
to other survivors,
other survives
minister to
me. We now
unite to minister
to one another.
During my
traumatic
experience
with clergy
sexual abuse,
I found God
in the most
unlikely places.
God used other
survivors
and their
families to
minister to
me. I found
comfort and
refuge with
people who
were considered
outcasts for
speaking out.
I found comfort
from those
who appeared
to have nothing
or very little,
yet they were
rich in compassion
and mercy
and I saw
Jesus through
them.
